Family & Youth Sponsorship, Contributing to Other Organizations, Human Trafficking Prevention
Our Projects
Family Sponsorship
Every year at Christmas time we reach out to our local schools and sponsor families that are struggling with poverty. We provide groceries and Christmas gifts so that they can experience a celebration despite less than ideal circumstances. We want families to know that they are loved, seen and valued in our community and having something like a good Christmas dinner and presents for the kids on Christmas morning goes a long way in achieving that.
Contributing to Front Line Organizations
We believe in partnership and collaboration and supporting the incredible work of others. We financially contribute to the work of other front line organizations and spotlight them on our social media pages.
Youth Sponsorship
We also provide Christmas gifts to the youth living in low income housing provided by the Nanaimo Youth Services Association. Youth are a particularly vulnerable demographic in our society and we also want them to be able to experience the Christmas season with love and hope through knowing that they matter and are also loved, seen and valued.
Human Trafficking Prevention
Human Trafficking and poverty are connected and so one way that we help in prevention is through poverty reduction. We also run an education campaign through our social media and website to raise awareness around all things human trafficking - what to look out for, terms, stats, survivor stories and organization wins. We also are putting together a list of organizations and resources to better support both survivors and advocates.
“The Sims Foundation has already grown so much since its beginnings and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the help it has brought to so many members of our community here on the Snuneymuxw territory. I’m thankful to be learning and growing under the leadership of a great team who truly cares about making a difference, creating special and meaningful moments for families in need around us while empowering other non profit organizations in Nanaimo to join forces in cultivating positive change.”
